The new Kohl’s department store had its ribbon cutting and grand opening in Redding today, just in time for the holiday season. The 94,000 square foot store is the first tenant and anchor of a 178,000 square foot retail center in the northern portion of Redding’s major retail hub known as Dana Drive.

Kohl’s was founded in 1962 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and came to California in 2003. It opened five new markets in California, making it the company's largest state with a total of 62 stores. The Redding location is one of nearly 200 stores presenting an enhanced look, with exteriors featuring outdoor seating and music, and glass storefront entrances with showcase windows.

Trader Joe’s and other retailers will be joining the Kohl’s location in 2008, reflective of a strong retail market which draws from regional residents as well as tourists in an area which has fully absorbed all primary commercial parcels along Hilltop Drive, and utilizes the last significant developable parcel in the Dana Drive area.
